"I want them to know that I have a little nasty streak," Richburg said. "I like to get after people. The center position, probably my favorite thing about it is not only the leadership role aspect of it but also the cerebral part of it. I enjoy kind of the X's and O's, being able to work with a quarterback, and kind of direct everything, and get everybody on the same page."
Richburg remembers briefly meeting Garoppolo at the 2014 Senior Bowl. Richburg was part of the North squad while Garoppolo was on the South team with another 49ers free agent acquisition – Jeremiah Attaochu. However, the new 49ers starting center is well aware of his new quarterback's accomplishments late last season.
"I've seen him from a distance, seen him from afar, the success he's had," Richburg said. "He's learned under arguably the best quarterback ever, so it's exciting to see him come in and win those games at the end. And I'm looking forward to working with him, picking his brain, what he's learned from his experiences, and kind of be able to share some of my things, and hopefully, build a great bond between us."
Richburg goes on to explain the vital relationship between a center and his quarterback. With the New York Giants, he was able to work with another high-profile quarterback in Eli Manning.
"We're basically the two guys who are starting the whole process of getting the offense rolling," Richburg said. "I haven't been around Jimmy in the building, but I guarantee he watches film more than anybody. That's how Eli was. That's how I try to be."
