The 25-year-old pass rusher will be reunited with Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, who held the same role with the 49ers during Lynch's rookie season.
Lynch was once considered to be among the top pass rushers in the NFL but has not contributed much over the past two seasons. He registered 22 combined tackles and 2.5 sacks since 2016.
The 49ers made Lynch a fifth-round draft pick out of South Florida in 2014. During his first two seasons with the team, he made 61 tackles, 12.5 sacks, and seven passes defensed through 30 game appearances and 16 starts.
In 2017, Lynch reported to the 49ers' offseason program overweight. He stated that his ideal playing weight was somewhere between 260 and 270 pounds. In May, Lynch said he was in the 280-pound range. Although, toward the end of the team's offseason program, he appeared to be in much better shape.
Lynch was unable to get in on much playing this season, appearing in just seven games. He had just nine combined tackles and a sack. Lynch was inactive for the 49ers' final two games of the season (Jaguars, Rams).
