"We had a good conversation, and he's going to give me my number, which is cool and a testament to him," Sherman said on the "Murph & Mac" show. "He's a great guy. He told me the story of why he wore the number, and it actually meant a lot to him. So I appreciated him being willing to give me a chance at it."
Sherman has registered 367 combined tackles, 32 interceptions, 99 passes defensed, a sack, and five forced fumbles in seven seasons with Seattle. He has also been selected to four Pro Bowls and is a three-time first-team All-Pro.
Ward ended the 2017 season on injured reserve due to a broken forearm suffered against the Philadelphia Eagles. He appeared in seven games and started six this season. He had 32 tackles, one pass defensed, and one fumble recovery. Over his career, Ward has 162 total tackles, two interceptions, a touchdown, two sacks, a forced fumble, and 21 passes defensed.
