Of course, the big news came on Sunday when Foster was arrested for the second time in the past month. The San Francisco 49ers star linebacker was arrested at his home in Los Gatos and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of domestic violence, threats, and possession of an assault weapon.
Foster was released Sunday evening on $75,000 bail.
Police officers were dispatched to Foster's home "in regards to a welfare check and possible disturbance call for service." There, they spoke with the alleged female victim, who has reportedly been in a long-term relationship with the linebacker. She told the officers the assault took place following an argument between the two.
Making matters worse for Foster, officers found what has been described as "an assault weapon" in his home while responding to the call. Although, no definitive description of the weapon has been given with the only references saying it was some type of rifle.
Update: A report by The Mercury News states that the weapon found was "a single SIG Sauer 516 short-barreled rifle."
According to a news release by the Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Department, Foster was arrested without incident.
As expected, an NFL spokesman told NBC Sports Bay Area that the league would "look into the matter." Under the NFL's domestic violence policy, players are subject to a baseline suspension of six games without pay following the first incident and a lifetime ban from the league for a second infraction.
The 49ers and the NFL are monitoring the situation and continue to gather information.
