In addition to the domestic violence allegation, Foster was also booked on suspicion for possessing an assault rifle, according to the Mercury News.
The arrest took place in Los Gatos, and Foster is being held on $75,000 bail (reported earlier as 'without bail').
The 49ers issued the following statement regarding the arrest:
"The San Francisco 49ers organization is aware of the report regarding Reuben Foster. We take matters of this nature seriously and are gathering all pertinent information."
The Mercury News reported that officers were dispatched to Foster's home after a report of domestic violence. The alleged female victim, who has been involved in a long-term relationship with Foster, told officers the assault took place following an argument between the couple.
The weapon was found at Foster's home during the police response.
The latest arrest is Foster's second in a month. On January 12, the 49ers linebacker was arrested in Alabama and charged with second-degree possession of marijuana.
Foster was the second of two first-round picks (No. 31 overall) by the 49ers in last year's draft and started 10 games while registering 72 combined tackles and a pass defensed. Foster missed six games with a high ankle sprain and a rib injury. During the 2017 season, he was named the Defensive Rookie of the Month for November.
Foster also finished the season with the team's highest player grade (90.7), according to Pro Football Focus, just edging second-year defensive tackle DeForest Buckner (90.4).
