The San Francisco 49ers have re-signed an ex-Patriots player that was acquired mid-season last year. No, not that one.

The 49ers announced that the team has re-signed defensive end Cassius Marsh to a two-year deal.


"Since joining the team late last season, Cassius has impressed us with his unique skill set and the tremendous energy and passion he brings to all phases of the game," said 49ers general manager John Lynch via a statement issued by the team. "Cassius is a great example of our desire to reward our own players with contract extensions as we continue to build out our roster. We're excited to have him as a 49er moving forward."

The 49ers initially claimed Marsh off of waivers from the New England Patriots on November 22, 2017. He appeared in each of San Francisco's final six games of the season. During that time, he registered 11 tackles, two sacks, and two forced fumbles.


Marsh entered the NFL as a fourth-round draft pick by the Seattle Seahawks in 2014. He played college football at UCLA before spending three seasons with Seattle. On September 2, 2017, the Seahawks traded Marsh to the Patriots in exchange for 2018 fifth- and seventh-round draft picks. He played in nine games with New England with one start and was credited with 14 tackles and a sack before being waived on November 21, 2017.

In four NFL seasons, Marsh has compiled 85 combined tackles, six sacks, and four forced fumbles. He was scheduled to become a free agent in March.
