The arrest was later confirmed by the Tuscaloosa Sheriff's office, and bond set at $2,500 for Foster.
The 49ers issued the following brief statement after news of the arrest broke.
"The San Francisco 49ers organization is aware of the matter involving Reuben Foster and we are currently gathering all relevant facts."
Foster was the second of two first-round picks (No. 31 overall) by the 49ers in last year's draft and started 10 games while registering 72 combined tackles and a pass defensed. Foster missed six games with a high ankle sprain and a rib injury. He was named the Defensive Rookie of the Month for November.
Foster also finished the season with the team's highest player grade (90.7), according to Pro Football Focus, just edging second-year defensive tackle DeForest Buckner (90.4).
The rookie was the fourth-highest graded linebacker behind only Bobby Wagner (Seahawks), Luke Kuechly (Panthers), and Lavonte David (Buccaneers). He was the highest-graded rookie linebacker this past season.
