While tackle Trent Brown was not expected to participate in practice, he ended up doing so. Although, he was limited. Brown, who is dealing with a shoulder injury suffered last Thursday during practice, was inactive against the Seahawks.
Shanahan hopes Beathard can practice on Thursday and Friday, which would allow him to suit up on Sunday as the backup quarterback to Jimmy Garoppolo.
"He might not be able to suit up," Shanahan told reporters on Wednesday. "I'm being optimistic, and our trainers are, and I know C.J. feels that he will be able to. He's not going to practice today. I do think there's a pretty good chance that he'll be able to get out there Thursday and Friday though. We'll see how it goes. Hopefully, he'll heal enough that he can suit up and be the backup."
Adrian Colbert returned to limited practice after missing Sunday's game against the Seahawks. He is recovering from surgery on his broken right thumb – an injury that occurred against the New York Giants on November 12.
"We'll see how the week goes with him and how it heals and how he feels," Shanahan said on Monday. "There is a chance that he could play this week. Feel definitely better about him the following week versus Houston, but there's a chance."
