Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo finally entered a game for the San Francisco 49ers. Unfortunately, it was because of an injury to rookie C.J. Beathard, who went down late in the fourth quarter following a hit by Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett.

After a few minutes down on the field, Beathard was able to walk to the sideline for further examination by 49ers medical staff.


Garoppolo ended up completing both of his passes with the final one being a touchdown in the closing seconds of the 49ers' 24-13 loss. He ended the game with 18 yards passing and the score.

Garoppolo was acquired by the 49ers via a trade with the New England Patriots on October 30. San Francisco sent its second-round draft pick in 2018 to New England in return for the quarterback.

Since then, Garoppolo has been working hard to grasp head coach Kyle Shanahan's complicated offense and become comfortable enough to get onto the football field. Garoppolo is seen as a potential franchise quarterback for the 49ers but is in the final year of his rookie contract. The 49ers have two options to retain Garoppolo beyond 2017. They can sign him to a long-term deal or use the franchise tag, which would extend his audition time by an additional year.
