The 49ers originally signed McDaniel on October 17. He appeared in each of the team's last four games and had five tackles, one pass defensed, and a forced fumble.
Before joining the 49ers, McDaniel spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New Orleans Saints, and two stints with the Seattle Seahawks. He entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent who was signed by the Jaguars in 2006. McDaniel, who is in his 12th NFL season, has 271 tackles, 11.5 sacks, a safety, and 18 passes defensed over his career.
McDaniel's release is likely a precursor to the activation of defensive end Tank Carradine, who started practicing with the 49ers last week. Once activated, Carradine can become available for the team's November 26 game against the Seattle Seahawks.
Flynn signed with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent on May 4. He was waived by San Francisco on September 2 and signed to the team's practice squad the following day.
