News of Hoyer's release became known on Monday following the trade for New England Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.
Redmond, who was a third-round draft pick by the 49ers in 2016, suffered an ACL tear during a Mississippi State practice on October 22, 2015. After spending six weeks on injured reserve last season, he attempted to return and started to practice with his teammates. However, Redmond was never activated to the 53-man roster by the league designated deadline and reverted back to injured reserve.
Following training camp this year, Redmond was waived by the 49ers on September 1. He cleared waivers and reverted back to the 49ers, who placed him on injured reserve.
In addition to these moves, the 49ers also traded former starting cornerback and second-year player Rashard Robinson to the New York Jets.
