Another offensive lineman the 49ers will be without is left tackle Joe Staley. Shanahan said Staley will be out for at least two games. Because the team's bye week takes place after the next two games, it means the earliest availability for Staley would be a November 26 matchup at home against the Seattle Seahawks.
Staley suffered a fractured orbital bone following an interception by Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Jalen Mills when defensive lineman Fletcher Cox blocked the left tackle during the return. Staley was taken to a local hospital in Philadelphia, where he remained overnight while the team traveled home on Sunday night. He was back in the Bay Area by Monday afternoon.
Shanahan doesn't believe the team will have to place Staley on injured reserve but they are still looking into the possibilities.
Staley is an 11-year veteran who was drafted with the 28th overall pick out of Central Michigan by the 49ers in 2007. He has been selected to five Pro Bowls and is a three-time second-team All-Pro.
Rookie defensive lineman Solomon Thomas left Sunday's game in the second half with an MCL sprain. Shanahan informed reporters that Thomas is also likely to be out at least two games, making his earliest return the same as Staley's.
"Most likely, we're looking to try and get him back after the bye week," Shanahan said. "It should be about two to three weeks."
Running back Matt Brieda suffered a mild MCL injury and will be questionable for Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals.
