Ward suffered a broken forearm against the Philadelphia Eagles. The injury occurred during the first quarter following a tackle on a 15-yard pass to Eagles tight end Trey Burton.
Ward is a former first-round pick out of Northern Illinois. The 49ers selected him 30th overall in 2014. In four seasons with San Francisco, Ward has appeared in 42 games and started 24 over the past three seasons. Over his career, he has 162 total tackles, two interceptions, a touchdown, two sacks, a forced fumble, and 21 passes defensed.
A quad injury and stress fracture forced Ward to miss much of his rookie season. He missed time in 2016 with a quad strain and ended the season on injured reserve due to a shoulder injury. Ward started training camp in late-July on the physically-unable-to-perform list and missed the beginning of the season with a hamstring injury.
Garry Gilliam, who started at right tackle on Sunday in place of Trent Brown, suffered a knee injury in the second quarter and was ruled out. Gilliam started because Brown suffered a concussion last week against the Dallas Cowboys and was not cleared in time to play against Philadelphia.
Zane Beadles initially replaced Gilliam before moving to left tackle to replace an injured Joe Staley. Rookie Erik Magnuson entered the game to take over at right tackle for Beadles.
