"Today will be the first day he's been able to practice," Shanahan said. "We'll have a blue jersey on him, not allowing any contact, but the fact that he's able to practice, you know, being optimistic. Really hoping to get him up for this week."
In September, Ronald Blair was placed on injured reserve with a designation to return (short-term IR). Apparently, that process has already begun. Shanahan shared that Blair started practicing with the 49ers last week.
"He has been practicing," Shanahan said of Blair. "He started practicing last week. I think the earliest we're allowed to use him based off of rules would be (against) Arizona and, hopefully, everything goes well and he continues to show he's healthy. Looking forward to getting him back."
Defensive end Tank Carradine left the 49ers' Week 3 contest against the Los Angeles Rams with a high-ankle sprain and was placed on the short-term injured reserve list on September 25.
"Tank, he's still a couple of weeks from the window -- maybe three weeks away from that window," Shanahan said. "Seattle. Seattle's the first time he maybe can play."
NFL teams are allowed to activate two players from injured reserve. Players who are on the short-term injured reserve list must remain there for at least six weeks before they can practice. They must wait eight weeks following the injury designation before returning to play.
