For the second-straight year, San Francisco 49ers defensive end Arik Armstead's season has come to an early end. The team placed him on injured reserve on Tuesday and also released tight end Logan Paulsen, creating two vacant roster spots which the 49ers filled by signing two defensive linemen – Tony McDaniel and Leger Douzable. Both signings were reported earlier on Tuesday.

Armstead broke his hand in the second quarter of Sunday's game against the Washington Redskins and will require surgery. Last year, Armstead was placed on injured reserve due to a shoulder injury.

Armstead was the 17th-overall selection by the 49ers in the 2015 NFL Draft. He has started all six games this season and had 16 total tackles, 1.5 sacks, and a pass defensed. Over his three seasons with the 49ers, Armstead has 50 total tackles, six sacks, and a pass defensed.

Paulsen appeared in each of the team's six games this season. He had no receptions this season and has been in on just 41 offensive snaps.
