The decision to place Carradine on injured reserve was first reported by the Sacramento Bee. Carradine left Thursday night's game against the Los Angeles Rams with a high-ankle sprain and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported on Saturday that he was likely to miss four to six weeks because of the injury.
Nzeocha, who will wear jersey number 46 with the 49ers, was originally drafted out of the University of Wyoming by the Cowboys in the seventh round of the 2015 NFL Draft. He has appeared in eight games over the past two seasons and compiled four tackles. Dallas waived Nzeocha on September 3 and then signed him to their practice squad two days later.
While with the University of Wyoming, who are also the Cowboys, Nzeocha (pronounced nuh-ZAH-chuh) appeared in 39 games with 26 starts and registered 207 total tackles, 13 for loss, seven passes defensed, three forced fumbles, two sacks, one fumble recovery, and one interception over his collegiate career.
Carradine appeared in all three of the 49ers' games this season and had seven total tackles and a sack. His departure from the active roster may mean more playing time for rookie defensive lineman Solomon Thomas. Carradine, along with defensive lineman Ronald Blair (thump), could return to the team later in the year depending on how their recoveries from injuries progress.
