Meanwhile, the Rams are tied with the Denver Broncos for the third-most points scored with 66. Their defense has allowed the third-fewest yards passing per game (153), which isn't good for 49ers quarterback Brian Hoyer, who has one of the worst Pro Football Focus quarterback grades through Week 2.
The 49ers were underdogs in each of their first two regular season games and that will not change this week. As of Tuesday, the Rams are two-point favorites over the home-team 49ers with an over/under set at 40, according to Yahoo! Sports. Other sources have the Rams favored by as many as three points with no one favoring the 49ers.
San Francisco won just two games last season with both of those victories coming against the Rams and have now won three straight against the division foe. Los Angeles started the season off strong with a 46-9 rout of the Andrew Luck-less Indianapolis Colts during Week 1 and then a 27-20 defeat to the Kirk Cousins-led Washington Redskins during Week 2.
The 49ers opened the season with a 23-3 defeat against the Carolina Panthers and then followed that up with a 12-9 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
Rams second-year quarterback Jared Goff has completed 66.7-percent of his passes for 530 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception while earning a passer rating of 103.2. For San Francisco, Hoyer has completed 62.9-percent of his passes, but for only 292 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions while earning a passer rating of 60.7.
On the bright side, running back Carlos Hyde is averaging seven yards per carry heading into Thursday's matchup. That ranks second in the league among running backs with 20-or-more attempts. In Seattle, Hyde rushed for 124 yards on 15 carries and averaged 8.3 yards per attempt.
The 136th regular season matchup between the 49ers and Rams will kick off at 5:25 p.m. PT on Thursday.
