The signing has not yet been confirmed by anyone within the San Francisco 49ers organization.
Ellison, who is 6-3 and 318 pounds, is entering his third year in the NFL and has been with two clubs, the Ravens and Panthers. He has never seen any regular season playing time. Ellison had two tackles during the preseason.
Update: This news has been confirmed by both Matt Maiocco of the Press Democrat and Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee.
According to 49ers.com, the team has made room for Ellison by waiving tackle Patrick Estes.
