The 49ers worked out three defensive linemen on Tuesday. The other two were former Atlanta Falcons defensive end Tyson Jackson and former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Ricardo Mathews. It is logical to assume that Marks was the third defensive lineman who was worked out.
Marks' time with Jacksonville makes him familiar with the 49ers' defensive scheme and defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, who was the Jaguars' linebackers coach over the past three seasons.
Marks was originally selected in the second-round of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans. He played college football at Auburn. In four seasons with the Titans (2009-12), Marks appeared in 51 games with 26 starts and accumulated 180 tackles, eight passes defensed, three sacks, three forced fumbles, and one interception.
Prior to the 2013 season, Marks signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he spent the last four seasons. With the Jaguars, he appeared in 52 games with 35 starts and had 104 tackles, 16 sacks, 13 passes defensed, five fumble recoveries, and three forced fumbles. In 2014, Marks led the Jaguars with a career-high 8.5 sacks. Last season, he had 22 tackles, 3.5 sacks, one fumble recovery, and one pass defensed in 16 games and one start.
Marks was released by Jacksonville on March 9. He will wear number 75 with the 49ers.
