The incident, which took place the day before Brock's release from the 49ers, allegedly involved his 31-year-old girlfriend. Brock was accused of punching the woman in the face and multiple attempts of strangling her, to which Brock pleaded not guilty.
Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported on Wednesday that, according to the Santa Clara County District Attorney's office, the charges against Brock have been dismissed.
The Sacramento Bee reported that four teams have contacted Brock's agent to inquire about the free agent cornerback and that the list included the 49ers. The team denied that report on Wednesday and said that it has not reached out to Brock or anyone representing him, per NBC Sports Bay Area.
The 49ers have a lot of young, yet mostly unproven, talent at the position. Rashard Robinson looks like a lock as the team's top cornerback with Dontae Johnson lining up across from him for the majority of the time during training camp practices. Johnson, who suffered a concussion during Tuesday's practice, will not play on Friday in the team's preseason matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.
Keith Reaser, who replaced Johnson in practice, has gotten some work in there as well and the team drafted Ahkello Witherspoon in the third round of April's draft.
"It was a tough situation because it's a big deal and you don't have all the information," 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said in April following the release of Brock. "(It was) my first time going through it, I found out how hard it is to get all the information. So, we spent most of the day trying to figure out all the information you can -- as much as you can get. You never do get all of it but there was enough there that we felt it was a decision we had to make and move from."
"I think there's been some conjecture that we didn't think highly of him," 49ers general manager John Lynch said in April. "That couldn't have been further from the truth. He was a starting player for us. So, that was not easy. I can also tell you that it wasn't meant to send a message. I think you let those things happen organically and we did what we felt was the right situation in that situation. It was not easy and felt like it was something that we needed to do."
Brock started all 16 games at cornerback for the team in 2016. He spent his entire career with the 49ers after signing with the team as an undrafted free agent out of Belhaven in 2010. Over seven seasons with San Francisco, Brock had 181 tackles, 11 interceptions, a touchdown, and two forced fumbles. In 2016, Brock was the 49ers' top graded defensive back and the third-highest graded defensive player by Pro Football Focus.
