As expected, Brian Hoyer is listed as the starting quarterback while Matt Barkley, C.J. Beathard, and Nick Mullens are listed as his backups – in that order. Pierre Garçon and Marquise Goodwin are the starting wide receivers. Joshua Garnett, who is not expected to be available for the game – or any of preseason – due to a knee injury, is listed as a starter with Zane Beadles listed with the twos. Safety Jimmie Ward, who is also not expected to be available (he is on the physically-unable-to-perform list), is also listed as a starter.
The starting defensive line consists of Arik Armstead, Earl Mitchell, DeForest Buckner, and Tank Carradine with rookie Solomon Thomas listed as Carradine's backup at right defensive end.
Opposite cornerback Rashard Robinson is Dontae Johnson, who has been getting work with the first-team defense during practices.
Of course, the depth chart is just an unofficial guide and not a commitment to where or when a player might play. Teams are required to release depth charts and they don't necessarily reflect what a depth chart might look like once the regular season kicks off.
