Brian Hoyer and Pierre Garçon wasted no time in one-on-one drills against the defensive backs, completing a stutter-and-go route against Rashad Robinson.
Early reports from practice gave high marks to the passing offense. Matt Maiocco posted a short video stating that Brian Hoyer had another good day of practice.
"It seemed like he (Hoyer) had a real good day; you never know fully till you watch the tape," said head coach Kyle Shanahan. "But, he had a few big opportunities, and for the most part, the ball went to the right spot."
49ers senior reporter Joe Fann noted that Marquise Goodwin also caught a 60-yard touchdown pass, which Eric Branch caught on film.
Defensively, Arik Armstead and Aaron Lynch stood out, both recording two practice sacks, with Elvis Dumervil adding another.
Shanahan commented on Armstead and Lynch during his press conference.
"I thought they did a solid job. I never know fully until I watch the tape, my eyes are a lot of places, but I definitely felt them today on a number of plays. Armstead has done a good job inside and outside. Lynch has come to camp ready to go and I think he's been doing some good things too."
During the live session of camp, there was a quick glimpse at the first team offensive line. Joe Staley and Trent Brown were at tackle, Brandon Fusco at right guard, Josh Garnett at left guard, and Daniel Kilgore at center.
However, Shanahan did not commit to Fusco and Garnett locking up the guard spots this early at camp, stating, "Those are discussions that we haven't had yet. You know, we let them go, and obviously, we give the guys who are leading a little bit more reps than the others, but we kind of let it play itself out."
The team nearly made it through the day without injury. At one point, Eric Reid rolled an ankle and headed to the locker room. However, he came back for the next series but found himself unable to play on the ankle. He was replaced on defense by Vinnie Sunseri.
"I know it was an ankle-type deal, but I'm not sure the severity, whether it was low or high," said Shanahan. "We'll find out this afternoon."
