The San Francisco 49ers have signed rookie wide receiver Trent Taylor, who played college football at Louisiana Tech. He was selected with the 34th pick in the fifth round (177 overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Taylor played as a true freshman in 2013 as a receiver and punt returner. The next year, he was used more on offense and had 64 catches for 834 yards and nine touchdowns. Taylor was a first-team all-conference pick as the team's leading receiver during his junior year when he caught 99 passes for 1,282 yards and nine touchdowns. As a senior, he was once again first-team all-conference following his 136 catches for 1,803 yards and 12 touchdowns through 14 games. His reception total ranked second to East Carolina wide receiver Zay Jones' record-breaking 158 catches.


Thanks to the 2011 CBA, all rookie contracts are now for a length of four years. Only first-round selections come with an option for a fifth year, which does not apply to Taylor. Having set numbers for each spot eliminates the need to negotiate salary and only leaves items like bonus payment terms, roster bonus allocations, and other miscellaneous structural items.

The total value of Taylor's four-year contract is believed to be $2,557,822, or very close to that amount, according to Spotrac.com. That includes a signing bonus of $202,822 and a 2017 salary cap figure of $515,706.
