Jones was a national top-five junior college recruit out of East Mississippi Junior College. In 2015, he played in every game for the Rebels, starting three and making 40 tackles, 5.5 for loss, and four sacks. Jones started all 12 games during his senior year. Over the past two years, he accumulated 70 tackles, 8.5 for a loss, and six sacks over 25 games.
Thanks to the 2011 CBA, all rookie contracts are now for a length of four years. Only first-round selections come with an option for a fifth year, which does not apply to Jones. Having set numbers for each spot eliminates the need to negotiate salary and only leaves items like bonus payment terms, roster bonus allocations, and other miscellaneous structural items.
The total value of Jones' four-year contract is believed to be $2,503,441, or very close to that amount, according to Spotrac.com. That includes a signing bonus of $148,441 and a 2017 salary cap figure of $502,110.
