Colbert originally signed to play at Texas but injuries and changes to the coaching staff influenced his decision to go to Miami. The transition in schools also forced a transition from playing safety to cornerback. Colbert finished the 2016 season with 22 tackles, one interception, and three passes defended through seven games.
"That's one of the biggest question marks for Adrian Colbert going into the 2017 NFL Draft," wrote Russell Brown of FanSided back in January. "The injuries even date back to when he was a kid. At the age of 9, he was in a bicycle accident and spent more than a week in a coma. He then has the scars from surgery on a broken arm and meniscus tear in his knee. However, despite all that, he's still standing and playing strong. No doubt, he's one of the toughest guys on the gridiron."
Thanks to the 2011 CBA, all rookie contracts are now for a length of four years. Only first-round selections come with an option for a fifth year, which does not apply to Colbert. Having set numbers for each spot eliminates the need to negotiate salary and only leaves items like bonus payment terms, roster bonus allocations, and other miscellaneous structural items.
The total value of Colbert's four-year contract is believed to be $2,440,024, or very close to that amount, according to Spotrac.com. That includes a signing bonus of $85,024 and a 2017 salary cap figure of $486,256.
