On Monday, following the first day of the 49ers' offseason program, Shanahan was asked how the meeting with Trubisky went. "It went really good," he answered. "I enjoyed it. Met with him at the combine too and then got to spend a little bit more time with him last week."
49ers general manager John Lynch attended North Carolina's pro day on March 21 to take a closer look at Trubisky. As Shanahan mentioned, the 49ers also met with the quarterback at the NFL Scouting Combine. "He grows on you," Lynch said in February. "The more you watch him, the more you like him."
During the 2016 season, Trubisky's only year as a starter, he completed 68.2-percent of his passes for 3,748 yards, 30 touchdowns, and six interceptions for the Tar Heels.
According to Shanahan, the 49ers will also meet with Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson on Tuesday. Trubisky and Watson are expected to be the first two quarterbacks selected in the 2017 NFL Draft. The 49ers currently own the second overall pick and do not select again until the 34th overall selection.
