The San Francisco 49ers held a private workout with Alabama defensive end Tim Williams, per Jared Tokarz‏ of NFL Draft Insider. The in-demand edge defender has also had workouts with the Buffalo Bills, Baltimore Ravens, Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Jets, Indianapolis Colts, and Seattle Seahawks.


Over his final two years at Alabama, Williams had 50 tackles with 28.5 for a loss, 19.5 sacks, and three passes defended. He was a substitute player in 2015 but still managed 10.5 sacks during his junior year. In 2016, Williams earned 2nd-Team All-America and SEC honors.




Lance Zierlein of NFL Media, who compares Williams to Leonard Floyd, had the following to say in his scouting report:

"Alabama has the type of talent and scheme on defense that can make life much easier for everyone along the front seven, but Williams has explosiveness and pass-rush talent to create his own havoc as a pass rusher regardless of what is around him. Scouts say he is lighter than his listed weight and needs to prove he can play with increased toughness in order to reach his potential. Williams' career might be as a pass-rush specialist, but he's talented enough at that endeavor to become a dangerous rush linebacker in the NFL."
