As most of the Niner Faithful remember, Harbaugh and the 49ers unceremoniously "mutually" parted ways following the 2014 season. What followed was three head coach searches in as many years before the 49ers finally landed on head coach Kyle Shanahan, who looks capable of taking the team in the right direction.
Harbaugh continues to have a strong following in the Bay Area from fans of both the 49ers and Stanford. The Michigan coach said that he is always ready to offer advice to any of his former players. "It's a long and trusting friendship when you're on a team with somebody," Harbaugh said.
During the interview with our friend Taylor Price, former 49ers running back Frank Gore was brought up. Gore continues to see success since moving on from San Francisco and joining the Indianapolis Colts. "It's been awesome," Harbaugh said. "Really almost the definition of a long and trusting friendship, I feel like I have with Frank. And Frank is one of those guys that calls and texts from time to time and I'll do the same. Just, 'Hey, thinking about you. Congratulations on another great game.' It's been really, really good keeping in touch with Frank.
"I know that, on my part, there's a real admiration and respect for Frank as a friend, as a person, as a football player, as a dad. I love the way he is as a dad to his kids. It's amazing. I keep saying he's headed for the Hall of Fame. He's also a Hall of Fame guy already."
Harbaugh also briefly shared his thoughts on the news of 49ers legend Dwight Clark announcing that he has ALS. "So sad to hear about the ALS," Harbaugh said. "I want to wish him well. He's a good man, a good friend."
