Dawson, who turned 42 in January and is the NFL's second-oldest player, has been with the 49ers since 2013. In March of 2016, the 49ers kicker returned to the team on a one-year contract worth $3.134 million in total salary.
Dawson is getting ready to enter his 19th season in the NFL. He converted 18 of 21 field goals in 2016 with his longest of the year from 53 yards away. Dawson has an 84.5 percent career completion percentage. Prior to coming to San Francisco, he spent 14 seasons with the Cleveland Browns, making the Pro Bowl in 2012.

On November 20, Dawson kicked his 400th career field goal in a home loss to the New England Patriots. He finished the 2016 season with 404 career field goals which ranks 10th all-time. Dawson ranks third among active kickers for most all-time field goals, behind just Adam Vinatieri (530) of the Indianapolis Colts and Sebastian Janikowski (414) of the Oakland Raiders.
