Martin was the first of the 49ers' three third-round draft picks in the 2014 NFL Draft. He played college football for the University of Southern California. Martin appeared in 26 games, starting 24, on the offensive line in three seasons with the team. Last season, he played in five games, starting two, before being placed on the injured reserve List on December 31, 2016.
Martin is the third player with whom the 49ers have parted ways over the past two days. On Tuesday, the team announced the releases of WR Torrey Smith and S Antoine Bethea. The 49ers are expected to have well over $100 million in cap space with the roster moves and are looking to strike early in free agency with WR Pierre Garcon reportedly set to be an early signing following the start of the new league year on Thursday at 1 p.m. Pacific.
