Trubisky could be one of the top quarterbacks selected in the 2017 NFL Draft, which kicks off at the end of April. Recent reports have even said that the Cleveland Browns might consider selecting Trubisky with the number one pick. The 49ers hold the second overall selection in the draft.
During the 2016 season, Trubisky's only year as a starter, he completed 68.2-percent of his passes for 3,748 yards, 30 touchdowns, and six interceptions for the Tar Heels.
Trubisky's height was a concern heading into the NFL Scouting Combine, with many feeling that he would measure under his listed 6-foot-2 height. He ended up measuring in at over 6-foot-2 on Thursday.
"I got a note today from somebody over there (that) he measured over 6-2," 49ers general manager John Lynch said that day in Indianapolis. "He made himself some money today, I promise you. You can see -- just like the other guys I talked about -- why people like him. He grows on you. The more you watch him, the more you like him."
The 49ers will be in need of a quarterback because they will have none on their roster at the start of free agency on March 9. Colin Kaepernick is expected to officially opt out of the final year of his contract on Friday and no other 49ers quarterback was signed beyond the 2016 season.
As revealed by Lynch himself, the 49ers have already met with former Notre Dame quarterback DeShone Kizer. The team will also meet with former Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson, per Bleacher Report.
