Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan will likely become the 49ers' newest head coach following the Super Bowl. Dominik was Tampa Bay's pro scouting director in 2004 and 2005 when Shanahan was an assistant with the Buccaneers. Dominik's name was one that Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee linked to Shanahan should things go south with Minnesota Vikings assistant general manager George Paton and Arizona Cardinals vice president of player personnel Terry McDonough.
Paton was reportedly the frontrunner for the 49ers job. However, the Indianapolis Colts requested to interview the Vikings executive following the firing of general manager Ryan Grigson. Until then, San Francisco was the only team in search of a general manager.
The 49ers are scheduled to meet with Shanahan, Paton, and McDonough on Saturday to determine which pairing, if any, would work for the organization as the team attempts a massive rebuild.
It is important to note that nowhere in La Canfora's tweet does he specifically state that Dominik is being linked to the 49ers' vacant general manager job, but just to the organization itself in some role. Dominik served as the Buccaneers' general manager from 2009 through 2013. Prior to that, he was their director of pro scouting for 12 years.
