The 49ers would also have their pick of both New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, who were both probably their top choices anyway. The 49ers also have an interview scheduled for Sunday with Seattle Seahawks assistant head coach and offensive line coach Tom Cable.
McDaniels was interviewed on Saturday and is believed to be the frontrunner for the 49ers job. Shanahan interviewed with San Francisco just a day prior to McDaniels' meeting.
On Thursday, the Los Angeles Rams announced the hiring of former Washington Redskins offensive coordinator Sean McVay, who apparently impressed the 49ers during an interview on Monday. McVay, who was already the youngest coordinator in the league, becomes the youngest ever NFL head coach.
Don't expect an announcement from the 49ers in the next day or so. Both the Patriots and the Falcons are in the playoffs and neither McDaniels nor Shanahan can be hired until that is no longer the case. After enjoying a week off, both teams host divisional round games on Saturday.
