A consequence of that loss for the San Francisco 49ers is that they will be unable to jump ahead of Cleveland for the top spot in the 2017 NFL Draft, no matter what happens this afternoon against the Seattle Seahawks at Levi's Stadium. The Seahawks are currently 11.5-point favorites.
The 49ers have not had the first overall selection in the NFL Draft since 2005 when the team selected quarterback Alex Smith out of Utah. Smith is currently the starting quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs.
With a victory over Seattle, the 49ers could end up with the same record as the Chicago Bears and Jacksonville Jaguars, but would still get the second overall selection due to a weaker strength of schedule.
Who will be selecting players for the 49ers is unknown. Last night, a report by Adam Schefter of ESPN revealed that 49ers general manager Trent Baalke and head coach Chip Kelly would be fired.
Earlier today, Jay Glazer appeared on FOX Sports and revealed that Baalke had been informed on Friday that he would not be back following the season. Kelly will meet with ownership following today's 49ers-Seahawks game but reportedly is aware of his fate following a phone call with team CEO Jed York last night following news of his impending firing.
