It was reported earlier tonight that the San Francisco 49ers are expected to part ways with both general manager Trent Baalke and head coach Chip Kelly. Who will replace the duo is anyone's guess at this point. However, one former 49ers Pro Bowl quarterback is throwing his name out there to show that he would be interested in helping helm the ship. No, it isn't Joe Montana. No, it isn't Steve Young either. It's Jeff Garcia.

"You want fire, passion & knowledge, I have it all & an experienced staff to back me," the 4-time Pro Bowl quarterback Tweeted out tonight. Is he serious? Knowing Garcia, probably.



In November, Garcia expressed interest in the then-vacant head coach vacancy at San Jose State. That job was given to former Oregon State receivers coach Brent Brennan in December.

Since ending his pro football career in 2010, Garcia has tutored several quarterbacks, been a CFL assistant coach, and briefly served as an NFL assistant with the then-St. Louis Rams in 2015. He has made it well known that he would be interested in coaching.

Following five seasons with the Calgary Stampeders, Garcia joined the 49ers in 1999 and was to be Steve Young's backup until the Hall of Fame quarterback retired following a concussion. Garcia became the starting quarterback and remained with San Francisco through the 2003 season. After that, he spent time with the Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Philadelphia Eagles, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
