In November, Garcia expressed interest in the then-vacant head coach vacancy at San Jose State. That job was given to former Oregon State receivers coach Brent Brennan in December.
Since ending his pro football career in 2010, Garcia has tutored several quarterbacks, been a CFL assistant coach, and briefly served as an NFL assistant with the then-St. Louis Rams in 2015. He has made it well known that he would be interested in coaching.
Following five seasons with the Calgary Stampeders, Garcia joined the 49ers in 1999 and was to be Steve Young's backup until the Hall of Fame quarterback retired following a concussion. Garcia became the starting quarterback and remained with San Francisco through the 2003 season. After that, he spent time with the Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Philadelphia Eagles, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
