Earlier today, WR Torrey Smith became the 49ers' 17th player to be placed on injured reserve in 2016. He suffered a concussion on December 11 against the New York Jets and missed the team's game this past Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons. Smith had not practiced over the past two weeks after failing to pass tests needed to clear him from the concussion protocol.
The 49ers will also be without their other starting wide receiver, Quinton Patton, who broke his foot on Sunday against the Falcons and was one of the five players placed on injured reserve this week. The others were Smith, LB Nick Bellore, TE Blake Bell, and CB Jimmie Ward.

OT Joe Staley, who has been dealing with a hamstring issue, has missed the team's last two games. He is listed as doubtful against the Rams. On Wednesday, 49ers head coach Chip Kelly stated that Staley has not been placed on injured reserve because there is still hope that he can play this year.
The only other player listed as doubtful is CB Dontae Johnson.
