WR Torrey Smith remains in the concussion protocol and has not practiced over the past two weeks. He suffered the concussion on December 11 against the New York Jets and missed the team's game this past Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.
"I'm feeling way better but there's still some issues there," Smith said on KNBR 680 on Wednesday. He said that he has not yet passed the tests necessary to move on from the concussion protocol and would not commit to playing on Saturday. "I take the test (again) later this week," Smith said. "So we'll see."
The 49ers will be without their other starting wide receiver, Quinton Patton, who broke his foot on Sunday against the Falcons and was placed on injured reserve.
OT Joe Staley, who has been dealing with a hamstring issue, missed yet another practice. The 49ers' best offensive lineman has missed the team's last two games. On Wednesday, 49ers head coach Chip Kelly stated that Staley has not been placed on injured reserve because there is still hope that he can play this year. The 49ers currently have 16 players on injured reserve.
CB Dontae Johnson and C Marcus Martin also did not practice today.
