On December 16, 2012, the 49ers traveled into Foxborough and handed the Patriots one of their four losses that season. The 49ers would go on to appear in the Super Bowl that season. Kaepernick was 14 of 25 for 221 yards, four touchdowns, and an interception in that cold game that neared 30 degrees at Gillette Stadium.
What does Kaepernick remember about that game? "I remember them being up a lot and having them come rushing back," he said via Cam Inman of Bay Area News Group. "It was a great feeling to go up there and get that victory, especially against a team like that. It was huge. It was another confidence builder for our team, for myself at that point in time that we were playing one of the best teams in the league and went there, on the road – I want to say it was in December – and won. I think we have a similar opportunity this week to play a very good Patriots team and go out and get a victory."
Leading 31-10 after three quarters of play, the Patriots scored 24 points in the fourth quarter to "come rushing back" as Kaepernick said. The 49ers held on for the 41-34 road victory. The game was only Kaepernick's fifth career start.
The 49ers and the Patriots play each other on Sunday, November 20 at Levi's Stadium. It will be televised on CBS and the Patriots are currently 13-point favorites. In their 2012 matchup, New England was a 5-point favorite.
