O'Neil was asked if he thought Redmond would be activated. "No, I don't," he answered. "I think that he will not be activated and he will not practice today."
He was then asked if Redmond would be placed on Injured Reserve. "Yeah, that's the plan," O'Neil answered.
The third-round draft pick participated late in the preseason with the 49ers but was placed on injured reserve prior to the start of the season. He took part during the team's offseason program but was limited.
Following the selection, 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said that he was comfortable that Redmond will be ready in time for the team's training camp in late July. "He will be healthy," Baalke declared. "He will be ready to go. So that's a simple answer to a simple question."
Redmond suffered an ACL tear during a Mississippi State practice on October 22, 2015, continuing a troubling trend by Baalke of selecting injured players. However, when speaking to reporters following being drafted, Redmond stated, "I expect to play in 2016."
The failure of Redmond to play a snap this season just adds fuel to the massive amount of criticism toward the 49ers general manager, who fans want to be fired.
