The 49ers had signed Bush in March of 2015, hoping to use him as a dynamic dual threat in the backfield. He appeared in only five games for the 49ers before suffering a torn MCL during a November 1 matchup with the Rams in St. Louis. The injury occurred after he slipped on the sideline concrete at the Edward Jones Dome while running out of bounds on a punt return.
Bush had 28 yards rushing on eight carries and 19 yards receiving on four catches for the 49ers last season.
A fully healthy Carlos Hyde is expected to carry most of the workload for San Francisco in 2016. This past season, Hyde suffered a stress fracture in his left foot, causing him to miss nine games. He finished 2015 with just 470 yards on 115 carries and three touchdowns. The injury was discovered by the media just prior to the team's Week 7 matchup with the Seattle Seahawks, a game that Hyde would end up playing in.
The 49ers reported to training camp on Saturday.
