Law enforcement sources told TMZ Sports that the incident began when officers approached Lenoir and another individual, Marcus Cunningham, after observing double-parked vehicles obstructing traffic. Police suspected possible criminal activity and allegedly noticed a firearm inside Cunningham's vehicle.
"During the interaction, we're told Cunningham threw Lenoir his car keys ... and when officers asked the defensive star to hand them over, he did not -- and was arrested on one count of resisting a peace officer," TMZ reported.
According to public records from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Lenoir was booked at 9:40 p.m. on Thursday night at the LAPD 77th Street Division on a misdemeanor charge. He was released at 1:18 a.m. on Friday and is scheduled to appear at Los Angeles Superior Court on July 25 at 8:30 a.m.
49ers veterans are scheduled to report to training camp on July 22.
The team issued the following statement: "We are aware of the matter involving Deommodore Lenoir and are in the process of gathering further information."
Cunningham was also arrested for possession of a concealed firearm in a vehicle. The situation is still developing, and further details may emerge as the legal process unfolds.
Lenoir, 25, is entering his fifth NFL season and has established himself as a key piece of San Francisco's secondary. He finished last season with a career-high 85 tackles (two for loss), two interceptions, nine passes defensed, and a forced fumble, per Pro Football Reference.
