Being a 49ers fan in Cowboy Country

By Sasha D. Robinson
Jan 17

After an epic 23-17 win by the San Francisco 49ers, social media has been quiet in my part of the country. That's because San Antonio, Texas is a part of Cowboy Country, and when you support a hated rival like San Francisco, fans will tease you if they lose, especially if they are family. In Texas, the Waiter family are majority Cowboys fans, with a small minority of Buffalo Bills, Philadelphia Eagles, Atlanta Falcons, Indianapolis Colts, and the 49ers fans. Growing up with a family of your dreaded rivals and living in Cowboy Country was an adventure, especially in the 90s, when both teams were considered the kings of the NFL. With his 49ers holding onto a 16-7 lead in the third quarter, cornerback K'Waun Williams picked off Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, getting the football back for the offense. On the next play, quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo handed the football off to Samuel, who made some magic happen and ended up in the end zone for a 26-yard

'We've got a special group': Watch Kyle Shanahan deliver his post-game speech following 49ers-Cowboys

By David Bonilla

It was a hard-fought battle, and it wasn't a pretty victory. However, in the playoffs, a win is a win, and the San Francisco 49ers escaped AT&T Stadium, knocking off the Cowboys 23-17. San Francisco led 23-7 heading into the fourth quarter, but miscues kept the home-team Cowboys in the game until the end. It took a bizarre final play, with the help of some poor play-calling from Dallas coach Mike McCarthy, to extend the 49ers' season. After the game, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch went around the locker room, congratulating their players. Then the coach addressed his team. "I'm at a loss for words," Shanahan said. "I'm exhausted, and I didn't even play. I appreciate you guys so much. All the guys that went down in that
