Niners Believe Garnett Can Make a Powerful Impact
On Tuesday, new 49ers guard Joshua Garnett held a Twitter chat with fans and noted at one point that a player he tried to model his game after is former 49ers standout Mike Iupati.It seems likely, too, that Garnett, a Stanford standout the Niners traded up into the first round to get, will provide the same thing Iupati did: a punishing, physical run blocker.Garnett was the nation's Outland Trophy winner as the best college lineman last season and was graded by many NFL scouts as the best run-blocking guard in the entire draft.The analytics website Pro Football Focus said it graded Garnett No. 1 in the nation against power-five conference competition and gave him the top run-blocking grade.The Pro Football Focus scouting report on Garnett notes that he gets low and moves defenders at the point of attack, can "destroy unsuspecting defenders" on pull blocks, moves well as a pulling guard and when getting into the second level of a defense and has the potential to be among the NFL's best run blockers.But, PFF adds the caveat that Garnett would likely play better in a power-blocking scheme rather and a zone-blocking system. According to Sports Illustrated contributor Noah Strackbein, who writes for "All Steelers" on the network, there's a level of confidence within the Pittsburgh Steelers organization that they can strike a deal for San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk—and at a bargain rate.
"According to a team source, the Steelers and 49ers trade talks are real," Strackbein wrote. "While nothing is imminent, they 'would be surprised if it didn't happen.' But it all comes down to compensation, and Pittsburgh isn't willing to budge much on price."
While it seems unlikely that the 49ers would part ways with Aiyuk for anything less than a first-round draft

NFL Communications has officially announced the "NFL legends and active players" who will announce selections during Day 2 of the 2024 NFL Draft. Representing the San Francisco 49ers will be former defensive tackle Anthony "Spice" Adams, who spent four seasons with the team and nine in the NFL.
San Francisco selected Adams out of Penn State in the second round (No. 57 overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft.

49ers sign WR Trent Taylor, reuniting with former draft pick

The San Francisco 49ers announced the signing of wide receiver Trent Taylor to a one-year deal, reuniting with the team's former fifth-round draft pick out of Louisiana Tech.
Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area was the first to report that the 49ers were discussing a potential reunion with Taylor. The receiver was part of head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch's first draft class in 2017 and spent his first four NFL seasons with the team.

Draft Watch: Western Kentucky WR Malachi Corley visiting 49ers on Wednesday

The San Francisco 49ers are hosting several draft prospects this week as the deadline for pre-draft visits draws near. According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2, the team will host former Western Kentucky wide receiver Malachi Corley on Wednesday.
Corley is expected to be a Day 2 pick. San Francisco owns two selections on Day 2—the No. 63 overall pick in the second round and the No. 94 overall pick in the third round. Currently, the receiver is visiting with the Seattle Seahawks.
