49ers’ RT Anthony Davis applies for reinstatement

Feb 26, 2016 at 8:17 PM--

Niners right tackle Anthony Davis, who has repeatedly said on social media he'll return in 2016 after sitting out last year, will apply for reinstatement to play in the NFL this season, ESPN reported. Davis, 26, abruptly left the team in June, citing a need to let his "brain and body heal" after he was limited to seven games in an injury-plagued 2014 season in which he suffered a concussion. Erik Pears, 33, assumed his spot, but wasn't an adequate fill-in and was a reason the 49ers surrendered the second-most sacks (53) in the NFL. During his sabbatical, Davis criticized Pro Bowl left tackle Joe Staley on Twitter for what he deemed "soft" play in a November loss to the Seahawks. "Anthony is a terrific football player," Staley said. Kelly said the NFL's top-performing road teams tend to have top-shelf rosters. Last week, the 49ers head coach took a six-day USO tour of military bases that included stops in Africa, Germany, Italy and Spain. In Germany, Kelly visited wounded soldiers at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, the nearest facility for those injured in Iraq and Afghanistan. Kelly, who coached in Philadelphia the past three seasons, took a similar trip in 2010, has studied...

The 49ers Must Pursue Deshaun Watson

By Brian Renick
Jan 10, 2021

The smoke that began rising on Twitter earlier this week about Deshaun Watson being unhappy in Houston has consistently gotten thicker as the week has progressed. Typically, where there's smoke, there's fire. The 49ers absolutely must pursue all avenues available to them to bring Watson to Santa Clara. He would instantly transform this 49ers squad into a perennial Super Bowl contender. Watson finished the 2020 season as the second-highest rated passer in the league behind likely MVP Aaron Rodgers. He accomplished this on a team that was relatively bereft of talent on the offensive side of the ball, and was mired in a terrible coaching situation (Bill O'Brien was fired after four straight losses to start the season). Despite the dysfunction, Watson still led the

Saleh, Jets Could Thwart 49ers' Plans to Re-Sign Secondary

By Levin T. Black
Jan 16, 2021

The San Francisco 49ers don't have a secondary at this time. That's not an exaggeration. As of right now, the only player from the secondary to play significant minutes who is not a pending free agent is free safety Jimmie Ward. Here's a list of the players from the secondary who played at least 100 snaps in 2020 but would have to get new contracts if they were to play for the 49ers again: Richard Sherman, Jason Verrett, Jaquiski Tartt, K'Waun Williams, Emmanuel Moseley, Akhello Witherspoon, Marcell Harris, Dontae Johnson, Jamar Taylor. Only one of these is not an unrestricted free agent. Moseley is an exclusive restricted free agent, meaning the 49ers will be able to re-sign him if they choose to. As long as the 49ers offer him a league minimum contract, Moseley is

How Much is Too Much for the 49ers to Acquire Deshaun Watson From the Texans?

By Levin T. Black
Jan 17, 2021

Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson isn't happy. This has been known for a while at this point with reports of Watson not returning calls and being upset over the team's hiring process for both the general manager and the head coach. Watson was told he would get to have input but it's been reported that Watson either never got the chance or the input he gave was completely ignored by the Texans. The possibility that Watson could force his way out went from possible to a near lock on Sunday. ESPN's Adam Schefter dropped a bomb that will likely dominate sports talk all off-season. It came via a
