Talking to Tom: 49ers meeting with Coughlin today

A day after the 49ers were granted permission to interview Tom Coughlin, the former Giants head coach will meet with general manager Trent Baalke today on the East Coast, a league source said. Coughlin, 69, the league's oldest head coach in 2015, is the sixth known candidate to sit down with the 49ers regarding their opening, which was created when they fired Jim Tomsula after his 5-11 debut season. The 49ers also have interviewed Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson, former Philadelphia head coach Chip Kelly, Buffalo running backs coach Anthony Lynn, Tampa Bay offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter and Cleveland offensive coordinator John DiFilippo. Notably, Browns owner Jimmy Haslam is not with other NFL owners in Houston as he tries to finalize a deal with Jackson, Cleveland.com reported.

49ers begin offseason workout program today

The San Francisco 49ers are among the 25 teams kicking off their offseason workout program today. However, don't expect to see players facing off against each other on the practice field for the next couple of weeks. The program's early portion, dubbed "Phase One," spans two weeks and includes limited activities such as meetings, strength and conditioning, and physical rehabilitation only.
The second phase of the offseason program extends for three weeks and includes on-field workouts for individual or group instruction and drills. After that, teams can hold up to 10 days of organized team activities on the practice field.

Just when you thought the San Francisco 49ers and Tom Brady storylines had concluded, the future Hall of Fame quarterback drops another tidbit that sparks discussion. During an episode of "DeepCut with VicBlends," the host asked Brady what he would do if the NFL came calling once again.
