The San Francisco 49ers just announced they've placed quarterback Colin Kaepernick on season-ending Injured Reserve, and have promoted quarterback Dylan Thompson from the practice squad to the active roster. Kaepernick apparently injured his non-throwing shoulder Week 4 against the Green Bay Packers, although the injury didn't show up on the 49ers' practice report until this Friday. [...]

49ers-Packers Injury Updates: Drake Jackson questionable with shoulder injury

The San Francisco 49ers opened their three-game 2022 exhibition schedule with their only preseason home game, a matchup against the Green Back Packers. The Niners entered the game without their two starting cornerbacks, Charvarius Ward and Emmanuel Moseley. Ward is dealing with what head coach Kyle Shanahan called a "muscle strain," while Moseley is sidelined with a hamstring strain. San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan provided several injury updates via a conference call on Saturday afternoon, the day after the team's 28-21 win over the Green Bay Packers in its preseason opener. DE Drake Jackson The rookie defensive end left Friday night's game in the second quarter. Shanahan said after the game that Jackson was dealing with a "shoulder stinger" and would undergo further tests. That's what it turned out to be, said Shanahan. CB Dontae Johnson The veteran cornerback left the game in the fourth quarter and was evaluated for a rib injury. "Dontae Johnson has ribs/cartilage fracture," Shanahan said. "He'll be week to week." KNBR was live at the San Francisco 49ers facility in Santa Clara and had an opportunity to speak with Trey Lance. The second-year quarterback feels more acclimated to the area and the team following a whirlwind 2021 campaign. "I know where all the Chipotles are nearby and everything like that," Lance said jokingly. "For me, I just feel so much more comfortable. I know the guys in the locker room so much better. I'm obviously in a very different position than I was last year, and it's just been a ton of fun." A "very different position" is correct.
