New 49ers’ Stadium Halfway Done

Halftime, halfway there, 2nd down with a year to go.Pick your metaphor -- the San Francisco 49ers will keep building their new stadium in Santa Clara, which is now about halfway completed, the San Jose Mercury News reported.There are still about 313 days left before the new stadium opens its doors, according to a giant countdown clock on-site at the stadium, the newspaper reported. But just under half of the project's $1.3 billion total price tag has been spent, reported the newspaper, which pegged the stadium as 56 percent completed.About $37 million a month has been spent on construction this year, according to the newspaper.The 49ers will play their 43rd and final year at Candlestick Park in San Francisco this fall, and the new stadium is scheduled to open its doors next year.Seats are expected to be installed within the next six weeks, and sod for the field will be laid in December, the newspaper reported.About 5,000 people have worked on the stadium since 2006, when planning began in earnest, the newspaper reported.
