NFL cancels 2021 Pro Bowl game due to COVID-19 concerns

The NFL announced today that the league is canceling the 2021 Pro Bowl game due to concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. It was scheduled to occur on January 31, 2021, at Allegiant Stadium — home of the Las Vegas Raiders. Las Vegas is being awarded the Pro Bowl in 2022. Pro Bowl honors and rosters will still be announced in December and continue to be based on the consensus votes from fans, players, and coaches, with each group's total votes counting as one-third of the selection process. The elimination of the Pro Bowl could allow the NFL to add a Week 18 to the schedule before the playoffs. That would help if NFL games continue to be postponed and rescheduled due to COVID-19. Injury-ravaged 49ers own the toughest remaining schedule in the NFL

Tankathon ranks each NFL team's remaining schedule based on difficulty. Right now, at the top of the list are the San Francisco 49ers, who own a strength of schedule (SOS) of .698. Much of that has to do with having two division opponents — the Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams — twice each on the remaining schedule. The Seahawks lead the NFC West at 5-0 while the Rams come in at 4-1. On Sunday night, San Francisco will face the Rams for the first time this year. The NFL announced on Monday that Jeff Wilson Jr. has been nominated for this week's FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week award for his outstanding performance against the New England Patriots. The San Francisco 49ers running back ran for 112 yards on 17 attempts (6.6 avg.) with three touchdowns in the 49ers' 33-6 victory.
