SANTA CLARA — The 49ers’ running back position took another step closer to full strength on Saturday. But the team’s top rookie sat out practice after experiencing another strong performance on Thursday night.
Wide receiver De’Zhaun Stribling and starting cornerback Deommodore Lenoir were both held out of practice with shoulder injuries. The 49ers described Stribling and Lenoir as “day to day,” suggesting they are not expected to miss much practice time.
Meanwhile, the 49ers saw four players return to practice, including veteran wide receiver Mike Evans and reserve running back Jordan James. Evans left the 49ers’ joint practice against the Los Angeles Chargers on Tuesday with tightness in his quadriceps.
Evans wasted little time getting involved when he caught a deep out from quarterback Brock Purdy against solid coverage from cornerback Darrell Luter Jr. early in practice.
James was sidelined since Monday, July 27, with a rib fracture. Rookie running back Kaelon Black returned to practice last week and had an impressive preseason debut.
