The San Francisco 49ers officially announced they have signed running back Matt Breida to a one-year deal, a move that was first reported on Monday. Breida took part in this morning's practice with the team, wearing 28 as his jersey number.
To make room on the roster, the 49ers placed wide receiver Malik Turneron the injured reserve list.
The 49ers Communications staff provided the following rundown.
Breida (5-10, 195) originally entered the NFL after signing with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent on May 4, 2017. Throughout his seven-year NFL career with the 49ers (2017-19), Miami Dolphins (2020), Buffalo Bills (2021) and New York Giants (2022-23) he has appeared in 98 games (24 starts) and registered 575 carries (4.6 average) for 2,652 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground to go along with 120 receptions for 935 yards (7.8 average) and six touchdowns through the air. He has also appeared in five postseason contests (one start) and recorded 16 rushes for 50 yards (3.1 average) and one touchdown while adding one reception for 19 yards. In 2023, Breida totaled 55 rushes for 151 yards and one touchdown and added 17 receptions for 88 yards with the Giants.
A 29-year-old native of Brandon, FL, Breida attended Georgia Southern University (2013-17) where he appeared in 48 games (36 starts) and totaled 543 carries for 3,754 yards and 37 touchdowns while adding 22 receptions for 156 yards and three touchdowns.
Turner (6-2, 202) originally signed with the team on July 25.
